It started a few years ago when the lovely Matt & Emma approached me to draw their invitations. It was something I knew little about, but their wedding sounded INSANE (Matt built a bar, there was a treehouse, yeah it was cool) and I knew I wanted to work with them. I ended up hand screenprinting every invitation and menu for them and it was a labour of love. Seeing my stationery in their idyllic wedding photographs got me a little emotional!
From there, Claire & Matthew approached me because they loved my cards, so I worked with them on a simple and beautiful invite for their laid-back wedding. Then came Lucy & Gaz, who were getting married on a beach and wanted my maps to be star of the show, and Gem & Matt who are jetting off to the ultra romantic Sorrento for theirs, for whom I hand painted the floral vibe of their big day. Helen & Dan tied the knot in Vegas (it was planned) and wanted some casino themed invited for a very special English celebration of their day. You get the jist, things have kind of snowballed. And Rich & Em, Kelly & Richard, Lauren & Rikki and Sorrel & Dave later, I'm pretty sure I am now a Wedding Stationery Designer!
So far, bespoke invitations, tailored to a specific wedding, have suited me best, as I am determined to continue making my own work, and running Yellowstone Art Boutique. But lately, I've started to really realise how much I love this, and I feel that I need to cater for all budgets. I'm currently working on a small collection of invitations for smaller budgets, but will continue to offer my special bespoke services.
That said, it makes sense for me to start telling people about it.
And so YELLOWSTONE PAPER WORKS is born!!
I know that my career is a little confusing. I'm a shop owner and an artist. I sell other people's work, and I sell my own. So I've separated the Wedding/Freelance side of Yellowstone, and I'm giving it it's own website, twitter and facebook. It's all me, but I want to make it easy for you guys to get your head around.
I'm in the process of photographing work and building a website at the moment, but in the meantime, you can follow Yellowstone Paper Works on twitter here and on facebook here. And if you're getting married, or are having an awesome party and want a chat, then you can say hi at email@example.com.
Thank you for you continued support, in the Art Boutique and hopefully with the Paper Works. I know I dream big, but I feel that my confidence really stems from the wonderful support system that my customers and online friends create. If our dreams aren't scary then they aren't big enough eh?
