As a shop owner, Jess is a dream to work with. She's super organised, honest and always producing new work. She also collaborates and licenses her work so if you're a new artist then Jessica is a good one to be inspired by and learn from her practise.
Do you listen to music when you draw?
Yes, I love to listen to music all day when I'm in the studio, regardless of whether I am drawing or doing admin. I know when I'm not listening to the right thing as I can't focus properly so I switch it up and then find my groove! I use Spotify a lot at the moment and have a studio playlist that I love but I also rather enjoy Radio 6 with Radcliffe and Maconie, they crack me up!
Do you work well under pressure?
Yes and no. I work well at business related tasks such as accounts or email catch up under pressure, but I don't think I am as creative as I can be under pressure. There is nothing than worse than being on a tight deadline and trying to come up with your best design yet! Inspiration strikes me at random times so I prefer to start a design job early and give myself time to develop the artwork organically.
If you could live anywhere (rent free) where would it be?
Hmmm that is such a hard question! A Parisian apartment on the banks of the river Seine or a brownstone in Downtown Manhattan I think, two of my favourite places in the world!
Does it feel good that people all over the country see your work at shops like Yellowstone?
It feels great to be stocked in outlets like Yellowstone. I love the quirky, independent design led shops that obviously really care about the customer and go out of their way to source new products. Now the business is growing I am getting more and more stockists, and I often get random message from friends saying they were on a weekend visit somewhere and spotted my work in a shop. That's so lovely, and I hope it continues!
Hope you liked the little insight in to Jessica's world.
